Tuesday doings

This morning, I went to see the brain doctor to go over the results of my MRI and MRA. It turns out that my brain is fine. And I have it in writing, so I don't care what anyone says.

After that, I drove down to mom's. The idea was to unpack a few more boxes, and take her to Wal-Mart for a new toaster oven and to look at curtains. When I got there, she had no power! Apparently the workmen in the complex dug through wires that they didn't know were there. We did go to the drug store, but the power still wasn't on when we got back.

By the time it did come back on, we didn't feel like going out. And we didn't unpack any boxes, since it was so overcast there was not any light coming in the windows, and it was too darn dark in there. Basically we sat around and talked all day. Then Sara came, as she does nearly every Tuesday, to have dinner with mom. This time it was the three of us. Sara brought Chinese with her. Yummy!

After dinner, both Sara and I headed home. She was really tired, and so was I. So once again, I didn't get to knit. But I have been working on a super secret crochet project. More details on that in a later post.

All in all, not a bad day, even if I didn't get to knit.

preparing for the worst

I hear that there's a big winter snow storm coming, it's supposed to hit us tomorrow. The amount of snow we are supposed to get keep varying, hour by hour. I prefer to take a wait and see attitude.

With a small amount of money left in my wallet, I headed to the supermarket to see what I could afford to purchase. I came home with 10 rice side dish packets, 10 noodle side dish packets, and a 3 pack of scotch-brite sponge thingies I use to wash the dishes. We really needed new ones. The side dishes were on sale, 10 for $10.

When I got home, I parked my beloved Jeep as close to the tree box in front of our house as I could, allowing for minimum fuss with the street and our driveway being plowed. If you park too close to the road, the town plows will end up covering your vehicle with the road snow, making it twice as hard for you to get out.

That is assuming I don't need to go anywhere else before the snow starts tomorrow morning. If I do, I will just park close to the tree box again. But I'm not planning on going anywhere.

If, by some odd chance, we should lose power, we have a gas powered camping coffee maker we bought after the outage that knocked out the whole bleeding northeast. I don't remember what year that was. Coffee was the one thing I truly missed at that time. I remember, before that, seeing the coffee maker in a camping store, and laughing at it. I wasn't laughing when I made Hubs buy us one!

So here I am, digging in and waiting for the worst. Hopefully the anticipation will be worse than the actual storm.

Battening Down the Hatches

So here we are, once again waiting for a big, bad hurricane to hit. This one seems like it's going to be quite a bit worse than the one last year. So we have stocked up on water, and Hubs finally found someone who still had some candles. We already have a wind-up radio, now all we need to do is find our favorite backgammon set.

We used to play backgammon every night, when we were working together. Usually at lunch, from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. Hopefully all this storm nonsense will blow over quickly, and the power won't be out for too long.

That reminds me, I need to go dig out the propane powered coffee maker that we bought after the last big power outage. Remember the time when the whole North East and part of Canada was out? I had seen the coffee maker with the camping stuff in Dick's, and said to Hubs, "Seriously? A coffee maker?" Then after we lost power, I would have killed for one. Shortly after that, we bought one. This will be the first time we'll use it.

I can live without many things, for a time, like a hot shower, and television, but I can't live without my chocolate coffee!
