My day is not looking good

    Today I might as well go back to bed. It started out badly, one can only assume the rest of the day will be in that same vein. When I got up, I went to make my coffee and discovered that there was no half and half. Really, it's my own fault. I didn't get more when we were running low, and Hubs used the last of it this morning before work.


    So I get dressed and head to the local supermarket. I might as well get the other things we need too, right? I don't really want to have to come back later, after I've been caffeinated. Riiiiiight. I go and get everything we need, and finally reach my half and half. It's always in the same specific place, so I grab two and head for the checkout.


   I get home, and finally get to have my coffee. I start drinking it, and it doesn't taste right. It seems watery. I start wondering what the heck is wrong with the new coffee maker. I go to the refrigerator, and actually look at the containers of half and half that I had bought. The words on the carton say FAT FREE LACTOSE FREE MILK. The fracking container looks EXACTLY the same as the half and half, it just has these blasphemous words on it.


   Now, I've opened the one and I can't return it, so I dump the rest into the sink. I grab my purse, the second carton, and head back to the store. I explain what happened, and get my real half and half. I did mention that they might want to speak to their dairy guys. When I got home again, I decided I didn't want to make more coffee. I will just have to live through the day without it.


   The only thing worse than today's adventure was the day that I woke up and made coffee only to find the fracking coffee maker was busted. I actually had to go and buy a new coffee maker before I could have my coffee. Boy, did I grumble around the store that morning!

   
    P.S. I hope to get some knitting time in later, between the reading jags.


   

The lost ribbon yarn

    A few years ago, someone gave me a bunch of balls of a ribbon yarn. I put it away in a really good place. Once in a while, I would see it in it's bag, while moving it to get to something else.


    This past week, while not crafting, I've had the urge to find this ribbon yarn and knit it up with big needles. Just so I can say I'm making something. So far, I have been so far unsuccessful in my quest. But after Hubs goes back to work on Tuesday, I will have time once again to actually look.


    I find that I'm getting a bit excited about this possible project. I will take a photo or two once I find it and get going.


    Today it rained, after being hot and very humid. Thank the Goddess that it cooled off. During a lull in the down pouring, I went to the supermarket to pick up a few things. While I was in there, it started raining really hard again. I could hear it on the roof of the store. After I checked out, I joined the crowd of people who didn't want to run to their cars in the really heavy rain.


    After a while it let up, so I made my way to the Jeep. Just as I was a step or two away from the passenger door, it started raining really hard again!  So I got wet. Oh well, it had to happen. I don't mind me getting wet, I just didn't want my groceries to get wet. In fact, earlier in the day, I was swimming in the rain. Of course there was no thunder at that time. It was just plain rain.


    We've had so much rain today that the extra water has filled up our pool to the top of the skimmer. My friend Bonny's pool was threatening to overflow, and they had to pump off quite a bit of water. Maybe tomorrow I'll tell you all about the pool trauma we had this year.

So far, it's a non-knitting day

    This morning, I got up with the full intention of knitting on the cat bed. It's now 3 pm, and I have yet to pick it up. I took care of my farmville farms while I had my coffee, then made a list for the supermarket.


    I needed to buy meats, and chocolate truffle decaf coffee, so that means a trip to Adams Fairacre Farms. Their meat is of excellent quality, and cheaper than other places. So off to Adams I went, after a shower.  I also had to visit our local supermarket, for a few things that Adams doesn't carry. After Adams, I went to the beer store. I had tried a beer that I really liked, but the beer store didn't have that brand. And I don't ask for help in a store. One of my lovable quirks, I guess.


    After I finally got home, I put away all the groceries, and poured myself a tall glass of very old iced tea. That brought down my core temp pretty quickly. It's very warm and humid out today. And that's another reason I have no desire to work on the double yarn cat bed project. It's very warm on my lap! Maybe tonight, after it cools down a little.


    As for the rest of today? I plan on washing some dishes, and bringing up the laundry from the dryer that was done yesterday. And I'm pretty sure that there's enough stuff in the closet for another full load. Does it ever end?  I don't think so!

Sunday hanging

    Yesterday, I didn't post, I had nothing to say. Sorry about that. I'm all recuperated from my brief intense illness, and back to normal.


    Today, I drove to my daughter Sara's house, and got to hang for a while with her friends Aaron and Christine E., and their new baby girl Nora. She is the cutest thing I have seen in a long time! I got to hold her, and even made her smile and laugh. She made my day.


  After they began their trek back to Long Island, I hung with Sara and her hubs for a while, then I accompanied Sara while she went grocery shopping. That was fun. I enjoy spending time with my daughter.


    I'm home now, and very tired. I was up at the ass-crack of dawn this morning, but my poor Hubs was up even earlier than that. I will probably go to bed early tonight, as I have to get up early in the morning. I'll be honest, I could go to sleep right now, but if I do, I won't sleep tonight. So I'm gonna try and stay awake as long as I can.   

my adventures out in the cold

   My day started with my alarm going off 8:15, I set it so I wouldn't miss Stitch n Bitch again. Made it to Stitch n Bitch. It was really cold out...


    We had our breakfasts, and some quality knitting time. Then I remembered, after I got home, that I was supposed to go to Bonny's house after SnB. I put my coat back on and went to Bonny's.


    After I got home from there, I didn't put my house clothes back on, as I had to go to the mall in a few hours to pick up my paychecks. So I hung around, read some more, and actually finished The Iron Druid Chronicles book 3. I then promptly ordered book four for my nook, and began to read that one.


    Finally the time arrived for me to leave for the mall. I went down there, got my checks, then went to JCP to visit Bonny again. I remembered to stop at Joann Fabrics on the way home. My son had asked me to make another cat toy for their cat, and his new foster brother. I had searched every knitting/crochet bag I could find in my house, and couldn't find the flat plastic rings I knew I had left over from the last time I made the cat toy. I bought more rings.


    Then I could drive to the credit union and cash my checks, and do a little grocery shopping. A very little, as it turned out. I also stopped by the Karate school, and told my son about the rings, and showed him the new ones. He was pleased.


    Now I am home, and have changed back into my house clothes. The few groceries are put away. I am warm and comfortable again.

A Day in the Life

    What a good day it's been. I got up at 8:00, made myself a half pot of coffee, and sat down in my chair. A few days ago, I made a trip out to Adams Fairacre Farms to get more chocolate truffle decaf coffee. We were almost out. While I was there, I decided to try a new flavor I had seen on my last visit. It's called Maple Bacon. Now, I figure that anything that has bacon flavor can't be bad.


    That's the coffee I got to try for the first time this morning. With great anticipation, I sipped my first cup. It's pretty sweet, and not terribly mapley or bacony. But it's not the worst coffee I've ever had either. Tomorrow I'll go back to my regular chocolate truffle, thank you. I'll save the maple bacon for another occasion.


    I watched my favorite morning shows, then got dressed and went to the supermarket. That went well, also. Even though the parking lot was pretty full, there weren't that many people in the store. I even found a handicap spot near the door.


    While I was out, I also went to the Post Office and got the mail. When I returned home, there were two large, rather flat, boxes waiting on the stoop. My favorite UPS man, Dave, had been there in my absence. I brought the groceries in, then tried to figure out how to get the boxes inside. They were a bit on the heavy side, as well.


    I finally managed to get them inside. After I caught my breath, and put the groceries away, I finally got to sit and knit, while waiting for the laundry. The rest of the day passed peacefully; I was knitting while watching Cadfael episodes on Netflix. I got quite a bit done, knitting wise. I started the third skein of wool, this one a denim heather, and quickly found a problem with it.


    I usually manage to find the inside end of the yarn, in the middle of the skein, and this time I was successful as well. However, as I knit, I pulled out a rather large tangle, in which I could see at least two more ends. It turns out that there were two separate pieces of yarn, not attached to the skein, that somehow got put inside the skein. This is supremely annoying to most knitters. Fortunately, it seems to only be the two pieces, so far. I have knit over an inch on the bucket bag with the new yarn, and haven't come across any more of them.


    Now I am just sitting here, watching evening TV, waiting for Hubs to come home from work. I did the laundry, and also the dishes. I also cleaned out the cat box. It was a busy day, after all... All that's left is to cook dinner when he gets home.


    After proof reading this, I thought I should clarify something. A half pot yields two cups of coffee in my house. We have BIG cups. I believe they are 18 -20 ounces. So a full pot gives us two cups each, which works out perfectly.
   

Note to Self...

    It seems that people are taking this hurricane seriously. Even though it remains up in the air which way it will end up going, it's better to be prepared. Either way, we are probably gonna get blasted. It just remains to be seen how hard we get hit.


    So my note to self reads: Do Not Try to Go Grocery Shopping When a Hurricane is Forecast in the Near Future.....


   The fracking supermarket was packed. There were people everywhere. I have never seen the store so crowded before! And the lines? They were long and s l o w  m o v i n g.... I thought I was never gonna get outta there!


    But I made it home, and now I have to start dinner. You all stay safe!
