My Storm Day Activities

    Today it's snowing a whole freaking lot. We have at least 8 inches already, and it's gonna keep snowing until sometime tomorrow. I'd been waiting all day for our plow guy to call, so I could go out and clean off the Jeep so it can be moved so he can plow. (<-I know that's a horrible sentence) He called a while ago, said he would call me again when he was almost here. He didn't. He beeped. So I got dressed again and went out.


    The first time I went out to clean off the Jeep, it was really coming down. I cleaned off the front, then the sides and roof. By the time I finished the back and walked around to the front, it was covered again. WTF. He is a really nice guy (now, he was a brat when he was a kid), and when I expressed my fear of trying to break through the road berm, he even moved the Jeep for me!


    I came back inside and fixed myself a drink. Then I hear shoveling noises outside. I thought it was Hubs' friend Gene, who said he would come shovel me out later in the day. Imagine my surprise when it was our next door neighbor! He had borrowed our shovel yesterday and didn't return it. I was gonna go over and ask for it back, but no one has been home all day.


    Aside from all that, I've been mostly knitting today! I've made some real progress on my legwarmers. Between knitting and playing free cell, I'm managing to keep busy.


    I've also been keeping tabs on various family members who had to be out today. My daughter Sara didn't have to work, but her Hubs did. He's home safe and sound. Son Jesse didn't have to go in, but future daughter-in-law Julie did. I hear that they let her go home at noon. I know she's safe because she's posted photos of their snow accumulation on facebook.


   I know son James and his wife Jessica are safe too. My mom is safe because she didn't go anywhere. Friend Kim and her Cherub are home, still waiting for word on her mom, who should be arriving home from work very soon. I just got word that she's home!! Friend Bonny is safe for now, but she has to drive in to work later tonight. I will be anxious about her until I hear in the morning that she made it home safe.


    Once Hubs checks in tonight, then I'll know that everyone I care about most is safe. I didn't sleep very well last night, worrying about the snow, and if I would have to get to Sara's or not. So around noon, I got really sleepy so I went in to lay down and try to take a nap. I laid there for about an hour, but couldn't get to sleep. I kept hearing plowing noises that I thought was our guy. Eventually I gave up and got up.


    I've also been watching this really interesting show on Netflix. It's called The Following, and stars Kevin Bacon. Wow, it's really good. It was recommended to me by friend Kim. I'm glad I gave it a chance.


    I hope if anyone you care about is affected by this horrendous storm, that they are all home from wherever they had to go, and that they are safe and warm.

At least I'm knitting!

    I'm still under the weather today, but I did get out for Stitch n Bitch this morning. Since I got home, I've been in my house clothes, all wrapped up in my chair, sipping herbal teas with honey and knitting. I'm also watching the series Revolution on Netflix.


    Not much else will be going on today. I didn't even take anything out of the freezer for dinner. Later on I will be catching up on a few shows On Demand that I've missed, and maybe even take a nap. I had trouble sleeping last night.    

knitting, dishes and laundry, oh my!

    Today is Tuesday. I have to keep reminding myself, because I forget what day of the week it is. Today was the day that I had planned on catching up on washing the dishes, and laundry.


    I alternated again, watching an episode of Monarch of the Glen, then washing some dishes. I have to admit, that show is starting to lose my interest. I get annoyed at it because it starts out with just the two children, the older one died years ago. So the younger one becomes Laird.


    First, out of the blue, a sister shows up. There had been no mention of her before. Now, there's a here-to-fore unmentioned brother. Am I the only one who find this totally annoying? I may stop watching the show. I'm currently in season 4, I believe.


   Sorry, that was totally off topic, but I was overdue for a small rant. The only laundry I had to do was my son's karate uniform. It's in the dryer now, and he doesn't need it until Friday. I was pleased as punch to have that much notice. Usually he brings me a uniform and tells me he needs it in a couple of hours, or (at 10 o'clock at night),  tomorrow.


    I consider myself blessed that I don't have to do all his laundry anymore. He would save every bit of clothing he owns and then throw it all downstairs in one huge pile. It would be up tp me to sort, wash, and get it back upstairs to his room.


    I know you are all howling right now, "He's old enough to do his own laundry!!" and you would be right, he is. But he works long hours, six days a week. He really doesn't have the time. Being a Martial Artist leaves little room for stuff like laundry. Just ask Julie, his girlfriend, who is now in charge of it. I think she's better at it than I ever was, she doesn't let it get into huge piles. Kudos to her!


     There is some progress on the sweater front too. But I'm worried that Sara's sweater will be too small, and mine too big. There's nothing to do but push ahead, and when they're big enough, try them on. If my fears are warranted, I can always frog them, and start over.


   

today's doings.

     This morning, as I drink my coffee, I decided to open the living room drapes, so I could watch the weather. The snow is light, then heavy, then light again. Like it can't decide what to do. I'm fine with that, the less we get the better as far as I'm concerned.


    I am doing laundry today. First in went Hubs' things, as he has to pack for a work trip. Then I stripped the bed. Fleece sheets are so thick and heavy they require two loads, with our blankets.  But I wouldn't be without them in the winter! I've never had warmer sheets, ever. We sleep on the fleece in the winter, and flannel the rest of the year. Our bedroom is an addition off the back of the house, and it's very cold in there.


    Those of you who have been reading me since the beginning know that Hubs and I have separate blankets. For the reason why, you can go back to the early posts and find out.


   Just like yesterday, I am alternating my house chores with watching a new series on Netflix. I found The Monarch of the Glen, and have been watching it. I watched an episode, then did some dishes, another episode, put dishes away and wash some more. That made it almost painless. Today I'm doing that, but with the laundry. It's a bit harder, because of the stairs, but at least it's getting done.


    The snow is supposed to be worse to the south, and that's where Hubs works. If it gets too bad, he may come home early. I hope he does. But then he has to drive to Boston on Sunday, behind the storm.


    And now, if you'll excuse me,  I do believe my coffee cup requires refilling!


P.S.  In reality, it has taken three loads to wash all our sheets, pillowcases and blankets. Apparently I underestimated the loads. And I'm having to cycle the dryer again for Hubs' blanket and top sheet... I it won't need a third....

Exploring Sam's Club

    There we were, Hubs and I, in Kingston exploring Sam's Club. I quickly discovered that they do not sell yarn. They lost me. I doubt I will ever go there unless accompanying Hubs.


    That being said, we are now the proud owners of a new 42" LCD TV for our bedroom. Yes, it's bigger than the one it's replacing. But it's smaller than the one Hubs wanted to buy! All I can say is thank the Goddess he came to his senses and realized that a 47" TV is waaaay to big for our bedroom.


    Then yesterday, Hubs took our old cable boxes back and exchanged them for new ones. Smart move! It seems our old boxes, while not really that old, were like dinosaurs! So everything is all hooked up in both the living room and bedroom. It turns out that the picture on the new TV is the best picture we have ever seen on any TV!  Now I am having trouble getting Hubs to come out of the bedroom. I may never see him again, except for when I go to bed.


    The new TV has internet on it! And is it's own WiFi hot spot. So now we can get Netflix in there, where we couldn't before. The really strange thing? There are movies being offered in the bedroom that are not being offered in the living room!!  How does that happen? It's all the same account!!


   And I am thinking that at some point I can hook my laptop up to the TV, and see facebook, twitter and the like on a HUGE screen!! That would be fun! Imagine, a giant size farmville! This week, Hubs is working four nights. So I have four nights to explore the new TV and its possibilities!


    As a side note, whoever designed that particular plaza in Kingston was a genius! There is a Michaels Craft Store right next to a Gander Mountain!! And behind those stores in Walmart! The Sam's Club is across the parking lot from Michaels and Gander Mt. And yes indeed, we visited all four establishments. It is no small wonder that my legs and feet hurt! All that walking! And I am still a bit sore today.

Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Downton Abbey

   Lately, as you know, I have been watching Netflix quite a bit. Recently, I have been able to indulge in absolutely sinful marathons of shows and movies that no one else in my house will watch. I began with Doctor Who, of course, and got all caught up with some of the newer episodes I missed. Some of the David Tennant years, at least the ones that are on Netflix.

   Then I moved on to Downton Abbey. It turned out that it wasn't about knitting at all. Although knitting was mentioned in one episode. But it was really good. Who would have imagined that servants could be so horrible? Now I just have to wait for season two to hit Netflix.

   After digesting that one, I then moved on to Torchwood. This Doctor Who spin-off is really very good! I had seen the newest version, Torchwood - Miracle Day, on one of our movie channels, Starz I think, but I really didn't like it much. The original from the U.K. really hit the spot. I watched all three seasons available, in two days. I am hooked.

   Especially the last ones, Children of Earth. I watched, horrified. I even cried at the end. What a sacrifice. I think I even cried because Jack didn't seem to care. Even though you know he did, because he cried too. Anyway, I highly recommend you watch this show, if you haven't seen it already.

  And just so you know, to make myself totally clear, I did my chores in between the episodes of all the shows I was watching. I wouldn't want you lot to think I just sit and watch TV all day...

   About once a week, I will go through all the movies and TV shows available and put the ones I might want to see in the Instant Queue. Then I can go through those, and choose which I want to view. That is where all the Doctor Who's are right now, even though I have seen most of them.

   There was one Doctor Who episode, from 1964, with the first Doctor, that I was really looking forward to watching. I started watching it on Super Bowl Sunday. I could only take it for about 45 minutes. It was really really bad. I do intend to finish watching it, however. I think I just need to be in the right mood. A mood where I can accept that Aztec warriors spoke with a British accent, and wore really bad, obviously fake, leopard fur garments, among other things.

   But last night, I watched a movie called Lunopolis. It's been sitting in the Instand Queue for quite a while now. It seems that I was in the mood for it. It was really very interesting! It had quite the premise. I really can't even begin to explain the plot, all I can say is this - if you can see it, then by all means do. It was fascinating. I may even have to watch it again, just to make sure I didn't miss anything.
