Knitting report and other news

I have begun another super secret knitting project. I won't say what it is, but I will say it's from Elizabeth Zimmermann. The yarn I bought is working out well. I thought I wouldn't have nearly enough, but it looks like I'll only need a couple more skeins. Not too bad at all.

I hope to go to Michaels tomorrow and get it. But not until after the birthday party Hubs and I will be attending. That'll be fun! You gotta love it when birthday parties are held in bars.

Today our son Jesse stopped by on his way through and dropped off the bottle of rum he got for me when they were on their cruise. It's Vaanilla flavored, made in St. Maartin. MMMMMM. Can't wait to break into that!  I'll try and check back with you all on how it is.....

Saturday, Sweet Saturday

Today, I took the day off from my weekends-only part time job. You see, I had convinced my daughter to have a 31 purse party, so I could check out one of their purses that I really liked.

Her Pampered Chef friend also sells the 31 products, so she knows all of us, and has been to Sara's house more than once. That party was today. I went, and had a good time. I must say I was pleasantly surprised that the bag I liked was actually much bigger than I thought it would be. So, of course, I ordered one!

It also just so happened to be Sara's birthday today. My oldest child, my heart. It makes me so happy to see her settled and married to a great man. But don't tell him I said that... I wouldn't want him to get a bigger head.

I hung around after the others had left; I wanted to see his hands, for Gamer glove thumb hole placement. Once that had been decided, I beat feet, and let the kids decide where he would be taking her out to dinner to celebrate.

But tomorrow, it's back to work. I am still hoping some local friends will stop by the Hudson Valley Market Place to see me. There are a lot of vendors there, selling all kinds of things, from mattresses to purses, and clothes to jewelry. I hope to see some of you there! Remember, it's that gift giving season again!

Didn't Post Yesterday...

I didn't post yesterday, actually for a few reasons. First, I worked my four hour shift on my feet, and was very tired. After I got home, I was only able to rest for a couple of hours before we went out to dinner to celebrate the 23rd birthday of my youngest child.

And the second? Yesterday would have been my dad's 80th birthday. I can't believe he's been gone for 20 years and about 4 months. I spent some time yesterday, thinking about him, wondering what he would be like if he had lived. I can't picture him as an octogenarian! It blows my mind.

Today I put in another four hours on my feet, and again I'm exhausted. My legs really hurt. I'm hoping that eventually, I'll get used to it again. I think it's going to take some time. One day at a time, I guess. Or, more accurately, one weekend at a time!

The Unthinkable Happens

My mom just called me, sort of in a panic. Remember, she is moving in 6 days to a smaller apartment? Well, she told me she just called the management office, and asked if she could get into the new apartment, to take measurements and stuff.

The lady in the office told her that her apartment won't be ready until the end of November! They are gutting the whole place, putting in new insulation, and all that. So it's taking longer than they thought it would.

Well, the move is already all planned! The movers are coming on Wednesday! The cable and phone are being activated in the new apartment as of Wednesday! Now she has to cancel all this. It was bad enough the first time, taking over an hour each to accomplish the transfer of services. She is dreading having to do it all again, to cancel the whole thing!

Her question was, and a valid one at that, is why didn't they notify her that her apartment wouldn't be ready on time? What would have happened if she hadn't called?

The good news is that now she has more time to get all her things sorted and packed up. The element of panic, and rushing to get it all done, has been pushed off!

And here is a photo of Mom, taken Sunday, at her birthday party!

My Plans for the Day!

I got to sleep in, until almost 8! Right now, the coffee's a'brewin, and I get to relax for a while. Then later, I gots things to do.

First up, is to throw that bag in the washing machine to felt. I add tennis balls to the wash to help. It usually works pretty well. Also on the agenda for today: Driving to the Post Office to get the mail; shopping for my mom's 80th birthday gift; stopping by the Awesome Store to see if they are still interested in my services; and lastly, going to the local jeweler to see about new batteries for two of mom's watches. She asked me to do it. she didn't know where to go.

Those are the "out and about" things, then I get to come home and wash dishes and stuff like that. I also get to check on my bag, and either put it through another wash cycle, or throw it in the dryer; also with the tennis balls.

Whew. That's kind of a big day for me, I usually try to never make plans, because something always happens to muck them up. I can see that once in a while it is necessary, though. Then this coming Sunday, we are all gathering at daughter Sara's house for a little surprise birthday party for my mom. Her birthday is actually on Monday, so hopefully she will be surprised.

Ten years ago, for her 70th, Sara organized a huge party, out at a restaurant, and the whole family came, even my dad's relatives from upstate. This year, none of us have that kind of cash available. But mom will enjoy herself all the same.
